Crown Au Pairs will provide support and advice throughout the au pair's stay, both to the family and to the au pair, should this be needed.

Crown Au Pairs can offer advice about settling in and can find out about language classes and answer many questions. Over the years we have practice in building up strong networks of au pairs in certain areas, and will help by giving new au pairs their phone numbers.

The initial settling in period is a very important time both for the au pair and the family. As au pairs are not trained housekeepers or nannies, be prepared to spend the first couple of weeks "training" your au pair.

• Make the au pair feel at home and comfortable on arrival
• Be straightforward about house rules
• Give clear instructions about what to do
• Ideally put things down in writing

Remember that friendship and patience help overcome homesickness.
